After all the doom & gloom my surgeons were giving me about my survival rate for the operation I had last month. (to remove a Fistula and the dying parts of Small Bowel & Colon). This was my first operation to be completely complication free (so far). After 3 days in ITU & 7 in the HDU ( High Dependency Unit ), which was a blur of Morphine & Extra vivid dreams, reality started to kick-in. When I finally got to the isolation room, to adjust to my regular meds & normality, the surgeons came to see me ( I was alot more lucid this time) They were like a couple of excited kids. They were able to remove the all Adhesions from previous operations & that there was no signs of any Crohns in the entire Bowel ( I know there's no cure for Crohns but I'll take all the good news I can get). I don't think I've ever seen 2 men so excited... or was it relief. I've been at home nearly 2 weeks now. The District Nurses have been round every other day to change the dressings & pack the hole in my belly ( when I first saw the hole I could of got 2 fingers in up to the second knuckle). The District nurse left about 2 hours ago, now my hole has closed to one finger 2 knuckles. The theory is that if the wound is left to heal from the inside out there is less chance of infection setting in.I've been taking immunosuppressants for years so I'm just not used to healing this quick. I'm weak as a kitten now & am doing a passable impression of a Li'l old man & my muscles have turned jelly after all this inactivity. If everything goes well I could be allowed to start swimming around January-ish. The local Sixth form collage heats up their pool on a Friday to 30C-33C. It's like swimming in a warm bath.
It looks like I've finally had my turn with the NHS Magic Wand. First Class care, treatment & aftercare. ( RA RA NHS!) I'm not allowed to use my camera for another month or so but I suppose that's a small price to pay. As reality & normality blend together it'l give me time to play with Photoshop & the pic's I've taken earlier this year. AHHH it's good to be home

Remember, you don't know what you can't do until you try.
